Why Community Will Take You Further Than Any Strategy Ever Could

Blog Post 5 - Why Community Will Take You Further Than Any Strategy Ever Could

February 05, 20264 min read

Last Friday, eleven of us met in London.

On paper, that sounds simple. In reality, it was quite something. Bakers from all over the country, most of whom had never met in person, all arriving with the same plan. We boarded a bright pink double decker bus for afternoon tea, drove through the city taking in the sights, and then walked down to Buckingham Palace to get headshots taken together. Everyone was wearing a Baking Bosses t-shirt or hoody, and we came away with some brilliant photos that will live on social media for a long time

But the photos were not the important part.

What stayed with me most was how natural the day felt. There was no awkwardness, no forced small talk, no sense of people trying to work out where they fit. It felt like a group of friends catching up, even though the Bake Boss Club only launched last July and many of us had never been in the same room before.

That does not happen by accident.

The reason the day felt so easy was because the community already existed long before we stepped onto that bus. It had been built slowly, through daily conversations, encouragement, honesty, and support. Mostly through our WhatsApp group, which has become far more than a place to talk about business.

Of course business comes up. Pricing questions, confidence wobbles, decisions about what to focus on next. But alongside that are messages about family life, bad days, celebrations, exhaustion, and moments where someone just needs a bit of reassurance. People notice when someone goes quiet. They check in. They celebrate wins that might feel small anywhere else but mean a lot to the person sharing them.

That kind of support changes how a business feels to run.

Running a baking business can be lonely, especially when you work from home. Most decisions sit with you. The doubts sit with you. The responsibility sits with you. Without the right people around you, it is very easy to second guess yourself, compare yourself to others online, or convince yourself that everyone else has it figured out and you have somehow missed something.

Being surrounded by people who genuinely want you to do well shifts that completely.

When you are around people who support you, challenge you kindly, offer feedback without judgement, and remind you of your progress when you forget it, you grow faster. Not because they tell you what to do, but because you feel steadier making decisions. You take risks more confidently. You recover quicker when something does not go to plan

That support goes far beyond strategy.

It affects confidence, momentum, and belief. It affects how you show up. It affects whether you keep going when things feel heavy. Knowing someone has your back makes a bigger difference than any template, checklist, or tactic ever could.

The London day was a physical reminder of what we see every day inside the Bake Boss Club. That being in the right room matters. That proximity to people who are invested in your success changes what you believe is possible. That growth happens faster and feels lighter when you are not dragging yourself forward on your own.

Community does not just make business more effective. It makes it more enjoyable. It brings perspective to the work. It reminds you why you started. And it makes the harder moments easier to carry.

Watching a group of bakers from different parts of the country, all at different stages, support each other so naturally was a reminder of why we built this in the first place. Not to create another programme. Not to sell more things. But to build a space where people could grow without feeling isolated.

If there is one thing I am certain of after that day, it is this. The right people will take you further than any strategy ever could.

If reading this has made you realise how much being around the right people matters, we will be running more in-person days like this in the future.

If you would like to be the first to hear about our next in-person Bake Bosses event, you can join the waitlist below. You do not need to be a Bake Boss Club member to add your name.

Sometimes the biggest shift happens when you put yourself in the right room.
